Welcome to India Centre for Lab Grown Diamond (InCent-LGD), where we  aim at bridging the industry needs and future of lab grown diamonds with our core technical expertise and advanced research facilities.

LAB - GROWN DIAMOND

About InCent-LGD...

India Centre for Lab Grown Diamond (InCent-LGD) is established by IIT Madras and Ministry of Commerce and Industry for the development of indigenous technologies based on Lab Grown Diamond.

The technologies developed will be available to Indian customers to make India self reliant (Atma Nirbhar) in producing Gem quality and Electronic grade diamonds.

India Centre for Lab grown Diamond (InCent-LGD) was established in Year 2023 at IIT Madras.
The mission of this center is to establish a National Centre for creation of state-of-the-art facilities for Lab Grown Diamond Technologies that enable process development and optimization of diamond growth using indigenously developed chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) systems.

What are Lab Grown Diamonds?

Introduction

Lab-grown diamonds are created in laboratories instead of being mined from the earth. This process involves techniques in controlled settings, resulting in diamonds that are tough and are of high quality.

Production Methods

One of the methods used to create lab-grown diamonds is called Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). This technique mimics the natural diamond formation process by using carbon-rich gas, ensuring the diamonds produced are chemically identical to natural ones.

Quality

Despite common misconceptions lab-grown diamonds are not fake. They are chemically, visually and physically identical to natural diamonds, offering a sustainable alternative without compromising on quality.

Environmental Impact

Lab-grown diamonds have a significantly lower carbon footprint and water consumption compared to mined diamonds. The energy used in the  lab grown diamond making  processes is less than the energy required for large-scale mining operations.

Producing superior quality diamonds for the gem market, offering an ethical and sustainable alternative to traditional mining practices.
Utilizing the semiconducting properties of doped diamonds for high-speed devices, thermal management, and more.
Developing indigenous components for reactor cavities and other key sub-components.
