HIGH PRESSURE HIGH TEMPERATURE (HPHT)

LAB - GROWN DIAMOND

HPHT

What is HPHT?

The High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) process simulates the natural conditions under which diamonds form. It is a manufacturing way to create top quality laboratory-grown diamonds. By subjecting carbon to pressures and temperatures that are extremely high, the HPHT process causes carbon to crystallize into gem-quality diamonds whose physical and chemical properties are the same as those of mined from the earth. How the HPHT Process Works What goes on in the HPHT is the fact that carbon becomes exposed to conditions that literally mimic the deep nature of the mantle of the Earth. It involves extremely high temperatures of up to thousands of degrees Fahrenheit and very high pressures like those of 100 miles under the Earth’s surface. This process turns carbon atoms into crystalline structures that turn out to be lab-grown diamonds with identical properties as natural diamonds. These diamonds are of excellent quality, thus, applicable in various industries or commercial purposes.

National Importance

The India Centre for Lab-Grown Diamonds intends to improve HPHT technology because it has a leading role to play in the industrial growth of the nation. With the development and improvement made in technology, India will be able to manufacture high-quality diamonds, but also the cost of manufacturing will drop. These diamonds would find applications in various sectors, such as cutting, grinding, drilling, and all types of machine tool applications. Adoption of HPHT technology will put India’s manufacturing sector ahead in the race and go a long way toward supplementing overall growth. This technology shall position India as a key player in the international diamond space and project our strategic assets on the global stage.
